Perpetual motion

What about a programme which tweets every post from your tumblr account AND posts every tweet on your tumblr account ad infinitum?

I've been thinking about this for a while.

This is how it may look. I mean apart from the arbitrary Google image search results of Twitter/Tumblr. Each screen is connected to the internet, recieving live feeds from both sources (a problem arises with tumblr's lack of live updating).

Barmecidal Projects

The Mona Lisa with the lady selected then put through Content-Aware Fill (a Photoshop CS5 tool that automatically generates content based on the existing surrounding content of the image and fills in selected area). The resulting image is a potential landscape as interpreted by the software. The image was sent to an painting manufacturer in China where an oil painting was produced.

New Websites

Since I last posted I've been kinda inactive, at least that was until yesterday when I got back to uni and all my creativity hit me at once. Or something.
Anyway I went mad and bought two new domains, check it out! The first is obviously a basic homepage  to link to all my other shisse but the second is my new project which I hope will combine both "new media" and traditional stuff.

For a while I wanted to make something physical but rather than simply design an art book of my stuff I thought why not make a whole new website then publish it. I plan on first printing it zine style then hopefully getting a bound full cover booklet made.

I'm also planning to get some glossy posters of some stuff printed.

I'm excited! Art can't happen quick enough right now. 

Oh, and if anyone knows a simple way to integrate this blog into my main site (as a "news" page) please let me know

Culture as Screenplay: How art reprograms the world.


This is possibly the most inspirational thing I have read (although I hate the notion of inspirational writing)

The quality of a work depends on the trajectory it describes in the cultural landscape. It constitutes a linkage between forms, signs and images.



We must stop interpreting the world, stop playing walk-on parts in a script written by power. We must become its actors or co-writers.


Citizens would gain autonomy and freedom if they could participate in the construction of the “bible” of the social sitcom instead of deciphering its lines.




I've been interested in Bourriaud for a while, long before my conceptual obsessions began, when my foundation course tutor mentioned altermodernism, but it wasn't until recently I was recommended some of his other works (Relational Aesthetics in particular, although I haven't got hold of that yet).
It's a strange moment in when you realise that art theory applies not only to your work but also life. But then again I have been saying ART IS LIFE for a while now.

Concepts for the net generation.

I realised after a while that my website was horrifically 1.0. This isn't nessicarily a bad thing, cultural nostalgia is rife in the art world, but what struck me is the fact that my peers, as web users have no idea how a basic html site navigated with click through links works. I generalise a little but most people never got past the first page (epilepsy educing graphics aside).

Perhaps in my mind owning a website is still a sort of nerd badge of honour, a very 1.0 concept. The overlord of the domain supplying the page's whole design and content is a long forgotten archetype.

So an update: the site is now aesthetically more 2.0 oriented, perhaps giving the user the impression of utilitarianism which seems so prelevant in today's net culture- the notion that: If I cannot interact with it in some way what is the point?


But the site is still only interactive on a very basic "choose your own adventure" books level. And perhaps that's why I've hit a bit of a blockade the last week or so.

I'm hesitant to go into flash or javascript just yet. Partly because I'm already in at the deep end with HTML and partly because of plugins and memory and assorted other issues. But it really may be the next step. I did always want to make video games. Perhaps the next step is a totally interactive artwork, residing within the platform itself.

Some revelation.

Feeling rather pleased with myself lately, I seem to have more direction than ever, which pleases me. This last week I feel like a real artist for a change, sometimes I wonder if I am wasting my time doing this but right now it all seems to fit into place.

Aside from all the gallery stuff I've been discovering more and more what I want to do, artistically speaking. I can honestly say working hard is the best feeling ever, I just wish I did it more often.


A screenshot of Julia Scher's website, which is a html maze of clickable stuff. I've been thinking a lot about the internet and Net Art lately, this sort of got me thinking- I have my own domain name, instead of pontificating why don't I just start to build a conceptual world inside the web itself?
It seems like the natural thing to do.

A somewhat similar idea is Milk by Shu Lea Cheang, using familiar internet imagery to get across a more serious yet often ignored point.

Also interested in Bar Code Hotel by Perry Hoberman, using bar codes to somehow generate an artificial world. An interesting thought when it comes to actually showing my work in the real world (of IRL as I might say)

I've given up on trying to do anything "artistic" for a while, after I realised my whole "tirade against humanity" was rather childish and unfocused. I have a sort of focused idea now, it's in it's infancy because I realised it's best not to get carried away without carrying out some sort of research.
And I fully intend to research, eventually...

I just never get around to anything. Apart from my infrequent job and thrice weekly gym visits, all I seem to do is make playlists of forgotten c86-period indie love songs and post shit on tumblr.

I need to have some sort of life to inspire me, and this isn't it. I'm spending days just staring into space and drawing shitty cartoons, I feel like I'm wasting my summer. I want to have something decent to show when I get back in September.

I still have no idea what to do. I have so many ideas and no idea how to convey them. On top of that I can't really draw...

Summer job.

Well, my summer project isn't going that great. Although I feel like I've done a lot of drawing when I come to scan them I haven't. I should be less reserved. I should also, you know "research other artists" but that always bores me.
Anyway so far this has been my highlight.

It's not really finished but I sorta like it. I just wish I could draw neatly. Bah.

Country House

Been trying to plan out some sort of summer project, so far I have a title- "The Anti-Human Condition", which I think is about right in terms of pretension.
I want to explore my fundamental disdain for my fellow human and the social conventions which bind us. I realise that this is hypocrisy on most levels but I could care less.
Hopefully this will be a chance to brush up on my drawing/painting, something which has sadly been lacking from my work of late.

Well, anyway I've scanned some drawings from my current sketchbook. Nothing spectacular mind, I've never been that great at drawing.

Church St Records

Since the other day I have become rather obsessed with what I imagine to be "the cult of Church Street Records".
So much so that I'm currently trying to see how much scope a project on it would have. It's not that dissimilar to what I've already done, although I know that when I have this level of fascination with a topic, it rarely lasts for long.



You can have this for now. Unfinished of course, God knows if I ever will. I'm not the greatest at vector illustration but at least it doesn't have many curves.

Good News For Bad Reviews.

That was the title of my first ever art show. Foundation degrees definitely count as an art show, before you ask. Casting my mind back I'm a total genius. Spending 12 weeks meticulously planning and executing paintings on 12" vinyl then hiding them in a 1950's cabinet is a very clever thing to do. Of course it was rather a fluke, simply a way of showing my work in a less than obvious way, and certainly not an artistic statement.

Back to the present day, I got my result for semester one back the other day and I must say I'm pretty pleased with myself. For someone who spent most of the last three months procrastrinating, dating, drinking and generally avoiding work, a 9 is an excellent achievement. I was one mark away from a 2:1 in my first term and I barely did anything. Well that's not exactly true, I did think a lot, or I wouldn't have got a decent grade, but I definitely thought too much without putting my ideas into action. Story of my life (probably)

Still I'm pretty pleased with myself. My tutor said I could get much higher (if I put the effort in), and that my ideas are very sophisticated. Hell yeah. The report also said that I have "a certain quirkiness" which makes me seem like some sort of indie girl but I'll let that pass... So anyway, now I know I'm on the right tracks I'm motivated to put the hours in at the office, so to speak.

There's a lot of exciting potential for this term, providing I don't let my personal life get in the way. Hopefully all my ideas will come to magnificent fruition by the end of this semester and my curation module is shaping up to be rather good, if not a lot of hard work (the good kind).

And I'm going to Prague in two weeks, Czech me out! I really hope they sell t-shirts with that on. I am going to drink so much pilsner, straropramen and budvar, I'm missing the days of my Czech lager obsession already.
